The nanny fee is paid directly between you (the family) and your nanny — it is not collected by Holiday Nannies. Our platform fee (the booking confirmation fee you paid at checkout) is a separate service charge that covers matching, vetting, and booking support.
How does nanny payment work?
Your nanny's daily or weekly rate is displayed on their profile and was shown to you at checkout. Payment is made in the local currency of your destination, directly to your nanny.
When should I pay?
We recommend paying your nanny at the end of each working day. This is the arrangement most nannies prefer and the one we suggest as our default. It keeps things simple, fair, and transparent on both sides.
Some families prefer to pay a day or two in advance — this is fine and at your discretion. What you must not do is withhold payment until the end of the trip. Paying the full amount in arrears at the end of a multi-day stay is strictly prohibited under our marketplace terms and may result in removal from the platform.
⚠️ Do not withhold the full nanny payment until the end of the trip. Per our terms, nannies must be paid regularly throughout the booking — not entirely in arrears.
Should I pay upfront?
We do not recommend paying the full trip amount upfront on the first day. While we trust all our nannies, paying day-by-day protects you both and keeps the working relationship comfortable and professional. A small upfront amount (one day's fee) if requested by the nanny is reasonable.
Should I cover the nanny's meals?
Yes — we recommend it. If your nanny is working a full day with your family, covering their meals is considered standard courtesy in most of our destinations. It's a small gesture that goes a long way towards a happy working relationship.
This doesn't mean dining at the fanciest restaurant — a simple, appropriate meal in line with where your family is eating is perfectly fine. Most nannies will be modest about this.
What about a daily expenses allowance?
A per diem for transport or incidental expenses is entirely optional. If your itinerary involves moving between locations and the nanny needs to arrange her own transport, contributing a small amount for travel is a thoughtful gesture. There is no fixed amount — use your judgement based on the destination and distance.
What currency should I pay in?
Always pay in the local currency of your destination. Your nanny's rate is quoted in local currency on their profile (e.g. PHP for the Philippines, IDR for Bali, THB for Thailand). Paying in USD or your home currency adds friction and is generally unfair to the nanny due to exchange rate losses.
